Son of Joseph and Emma Crites (Speck); born March 29, 1890, Augusta,
Wis. Living in Peru, Ind., when he enlisted in U.S. Regular Army
December 13, 1917. Sent to Ft. Thomas, Ky.; assigned to Company F, 30th
Engineers, 1st Gas Regiment. Embarked for overseas June 30, 1918;
participated in battles of St. Mihiel, and Meuse Argonne. Died of
pneumonia October 27, 1918. (Ernest Crites
is buried in Aisne-Marne American
Cemetery near Chateau Thierry France.).
