In honor and memory of Frederick R Massey


18 August 1888 - 21 December 1964


Frederick R. Massey Sr. was born in Bunker Hill, IN on August 18, 1888. He was the son of Edwin and Elizabeth "Bessie" (Oyler) Massey.Fred owned a meat market located at 30 East Main St. in Peru and worked as a meat cutter at other markets in Peru and last worked at Ditzler's Meat Locker, 175 North Broadway. Fred served in the Army during WW1 as a cook. He was stationed in France and was a Sergeant.

Fred married Ethel Galbraith on March 25, 1925 in Chicago, IL. They had 3 sons, Frederick R. Massey Jr who served in the Army in WW2 as a SSgt. in the Phillipines and Japan;  John E. Massey who served in the US Marine Corp. and the U.S. Navy and Allen Lee Massey who was a long-time resident of OK.

He had a love for Harley Davidson motorcycles and owned a 1916 Harley with a sidecar. Fred also enjoyed boxing. He passed away at the Veteran's Hospital in Ft. Wayne, IN in 1964 after battling cancer. He is buried in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Peru.
