William Clark Benton was born in Estill County, Kentucky on 26 Dec 1887 to Jesse James & Mary Frances (Horn) Benton.. He enlisted 27 Apr 1918 and was discharged 7 Apr 1919. On 25 March 1920 he married Katherine A. Kohls in Chicago. He worked for the C & O Railroad as a yardmaster. He died 1 Oct 1950 and was buried in Mount Hope Cemetery, Peru, Indiana.
