William McClellan Armantrout was born in Peru, Miami County, Indiana on June 5, 1893 to James M and Margaret (Eberle) Armantrout.  He was a graduate of Peru High School. He became a dentist and was practicing dentistry in Fort Wayne, Indiana at the time of his enlistment. On September 11, 1917, Bill left for Camp Shelby in Hattiesburg, Mississippi as a first lieutenant in the Dental corps.

He married Miss Helen Roe, a nurse, daughter of Arthur and May (Stine) Roe, July 3, 1931. Sadly, the marriage ended in divorce. Neither remarried.

William spent several of his last years institutionalized, likely from damages from the war.   He died at the age of  64 of pneumonia. His only survivor was his mother. Funeral services were held at  St. Charles Catholic Church in Peru. Burial was made at Peru Mount Hope Cemetery in the family plot.
